Film Rally

Greater Philadelphia Film Office hosted a Film Rally on June 3rd, 2017 at the bottom of the Art Museum “Rocky Steps” to show to elected officials that Philadelphia’s film community is a robust network of hardworking people who are desperate for more work within Philadelphia. Philadelphia currently has a capped film tax credit of $60mil that’s shared with Pittsburgh, compared to NY’s $425mil allocation. It will be tough once that money is gone and films are forced to look to other states with better incentives. Without a competitive and dependable tax credit program, Philadelphia will see less and less productions being produced here and lose out on many job opportunities as thousands depend on this program.
I am a Senior, about to graduate from Temple University to pursue a career in filmmaking, so I am passionate about this and would love to see more films and tv shows being made here in Philly, in my backyard and be able to work in this industry. Films and tv are such a great medium to send important messages. Take for example the recently release of Wonder Woman and Rocky. Both iconic films. Both of which had a huge box office gross. Seeing is believing. Representation is everything. This film rally included many award winning directors, producers, actors and crew who’ve worked on large scale Blockbuster movies and small scale productions that were filmed in Philadelphia, such as Split, The Sixth Sense, Outsiders, Equity, Hack, Delco Proper, 12 Monkeys and many more.

These are the wonderful women who run the Greater Philadelphia Film Office. 7 amazing women who made this rally possible. I’ve been lucky enough to be apart of this amazing organization as their production intern. Thank you for having me back to photograph this event for you guys! For every filmmaker or photographer or anyone out there interested in filming in Phillyfilm.org is a great source to finding info on permits, insurance, locations…basically anything you can think of. All major films and tv shows go through the film office. Whenever you produce a film or even a photoshoot in Philly, that has a big or low budget, submit your project to film.org so city officials can see that this industry is bringing business into the Philadelphia economy and that the tax credit should be uncapped and the city should receive more funding for film grants for students, filmmakers, production companies..etc.
